Q: When is there a free spot in the queue for my manuscript?

We can best answer this question when we have more specifics about your manuscript, such as genre and word count. Currently, we are booking our clients one month in advance for all editing services, and two weeks in advance for our Beyond Beta™ Reading service. Shorter projects of 40,000 words or fewer can be more easily added to our queue. Contact Us with details about your work, and we’ll happily provide you with a more specific answer.

Q: Do you offer an editing sample?

We’re happy to provide a free sample edit of up to four pages (no more than 1000 words). This allows you to gain an impression of our editing style ahead of time to decide that we’ll be a good fit for each other. It lets us determine what level of editing your project will require, as well as an estimate of the amount of time we’ll likely need to allocate to your project. Sample edits are not available for projects shorter than 15,000 words. We do not offer a sample for Beyond Beta™ Reading services.
Just use our Contact form to let us know what type of edits you’re looking for and enter your estimated word count. Please be aware that developmental edits for 4 pages will not be robust, given the sample size.

Q: Do you also edit nonfiction?

Yes. Currently, all of our nonfiction submissions are handled exclusively by Dr. Anita Holzhausen, the owner of 6figs Editing. With her extensive background in Academia, research, and the publishing industry, her 18 years of professional experience provide multifaceted insight that nonfiction authors can rely on. She is a published author of multiple books (traditional and small press) and a proud member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Nonfiction Authors Association.

Q: How does the editing process work?

Upon receipt of your manuscript, unless otherwise specified, we will do one round of edits. We offer a non-binding estimated return date on each project to streamline the process and give you clarity on where your project is in our queue. Each project is different, and because of this, turn-around times may vary.

Once you’ve received our edits, you’re free to send us an email with up to four follow-up questions for us to answer within 7 days of receipt, and we’ll send a response to you after that in Q&A format. We’ll also be happy to provide an additional, comprehensive edit after your revisions for the same rate (or simply consider using our Dev/Line Combo w/ 2 passes package).

Q: Will you proofread or copyedit my manuscript?

To keep our prices low and our turnaround time expedient for our clients, we do not offer proofreading or copyediting services at this time. This decision allows us to keep our queues moving, thereby lessening the wait time for the return of your manuscript. It is recommended to proofread and copyedit a manuscript before publication.

Q: Can you guarantee my manuscript will be published by an e-publisher or traditional publisher or that I’ll get an agent?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that your manuscript will be published by any publisher, or that you will get an agent. Although we are affiliated with 6figs Publishing, 6figs Editing operates independently of the boutique publishing house.

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

We highly encourage you to reschedule your edits before seeking cancellation.
Should you need to cancel your edits at least two months before they are scheduled to begin, 75% of your down payment will be refunded. If you cancel between two months and three weeks before your edits are due to start, your down payment will be 25% refunded. For any cancellations fewer than three weeks before edits are supposed to begin, no refund will be given. Should we not receive your manuscript by our agreed-upon date, and if after 7 days, we receive no reply to our email request to reschedule, your down payment will not be refunded. Due to our expedient turnaround time, no refunds for the Beyond Beta™ Reading services are issued.

Although we are a business, we are creative, compassionate people who love to help others. There are times where extenuating circumstances occur, and we do understand some things happen beyond our control. Should this be the case, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will do our best to work with your individual needs.

Q: Do you have a refund policy? What if you’ve started edits and realize a project isn’t right for you?

It is rare that we will receive a manuscript, and during the editing process, we realize that it does not align with the principals of 6figs Editing or falls under our Incompatibility Standards policy. If we feel uncomfortable with a manuscript, or if it is in a draft form containing too many basic craft errors that drastically impede the editing process, we will reach out to the client and explain why we believe the project should be resubmitted at a later time, or may even be a better fit for another editor. In those rare cases, we will only charge for the pages edited. We will refund the deposit balance of the remaining unedited pages, and if any pages have been edited, we will immediately deliver them to the client.

Q: What material do you not edit or beta read?

We have what we call our *Incompatibility Standards*:

We will reject manuscripts that contain material with hate-filled speech, non-consenting sexual activities, bestiality, explicit violence, or depravity. Under no circumstances will we accept works depicting graphic harm to living beings.

Q: How do I reserve a spot on your schedule?

Beyond Beta™ Reading services, Sensitivity Readings, Productivity Coaching sessions, and most edits up to 60,000 words can be booked immediately on our website.

For more extensive editing projects: Please see your invoice for more details. Once we have accepted your manuscript into our queue, you will receive an invoice for payment for the services you wish to receive, payable via PayPal. For extensive edits, a down payment is 50% of the total cost. The remaining balance is due upon completion of the editing project. You will receive an email from our editors to confirm the start and estimated completion dates before we begin to edit your work. You’ll be expected to pay the remaining balance in full within 7 days after you’ve received notification that the edits are complete. Your manuscript will be returned to you as soon as it’s completed, and we’ve received your final payment.

Q: What do you consider to be a Page Length?

The industry-standard page length is 250 words per page. Due to formatting discrepancies in the manuscripts we receive, all project fees will be calculated using the number of words in a project.

6figs Edits does not and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status. We believe in equal and fair opportunities for all, and we do our best to reflect this ethos in our daily work and personal lives.
